Final Journal Post

One positive from the final run through is that we were organized and knew what we had to. Also the lighting and sound was good as it came in when it was needed. We had an audience which made it more difficult, as some times they weren't receptive to the show.  Also the contestants had some input which confused the audience. The timing of the show was good as it lasted for the 20 minutes. One of the issues I faced as a cameramen was that the headset had become disconnected so I was unable to hear what the vision mixer had to say to me. This led to problems such as my camera not being ready and then getting put on live. Another problem was that the host for the show despite being told beforehand to not turn his back to the camera sub consciously did, which made i difficult for me to get a good shot. I think overall I did a decent job but I know I could of done better without the technical issues, I felt I was organized and knew what I had to do but I failed to adapt when I faced problems. From this project I have gained a lot of new skills, such as working with different people who I wouldn't normally get along with but finding a way to make it beneficial for all parties. I also learnt the complexities which go in to make a good multi-camera production. Overall I think this was a great experience and I am proud of what I achieved with my group.

This was the last run through before we did the live show, the run through went really well and I felt as a group we were fully prepared for the actual show. Everything went really well the lighting and sound were both on time, the camera work was also very good. The show also went on for 20 minutes which was another positive. One problem I had was tracking the host as he walked about, I also had a problem with one of the shots when i had to take a shot of the Ipad as I found it difficult to focus the Ipad. I also I had to adjust my camera position as the teleprompter was moved next to me.

This week we had another run through of our multi camera 'Social Challenge' once again I felt like this was a successful run through. I felt as a team we were more cohesive as we all knew what we had to do for our role. This week I changed the tripod I was using to a one which was mobile, this helped me as it was more easier to film as it moved less. One criticism of the show would be that it finished too quickly. We also added audience involvement to the show to make it feel more realistic, another problem we had was with the teleprompter as it made the host look towards the camera too the left when he needed to face the middle camera.

Today in the studio we had a run through for our multi cam production 'Social Challenge'. At the start of the lesson we had the set prepared for our show, everyone had a clearer understanding of what they had to do. Personally for me this was one of the best run through as I always had a good shot before the vision mixer went to my camera, also the sound timing and lights had significantly improved from the previous run through. Overall everyone in the group understood there role and performed there jobs to a good standard. The next time we have a run through we will make sure we have our ident for our show. One thing I would improve from the show I would tell the host to stay in one position as he would sometimes turn his back to the camera which would make it hard for me to capture a good shot.

Budget

Evidence of meetings

In the first meeting we went through the task 1 brief we then assigned job roles to each person in our group. As a group we then discussed how the game would work within the TV studio and how we would film it. The job role I was given was to find out the location reece.  (15 minutes)
In the second meeting we discussed the layout of the the set we talked about what type of backdrop to use, we also agreed that it would be best to have six contestants and one host. We also decided to have a set layout similar to the show  "celebrity juice" . We also talked about the different shots we intended to use. (20 minutes)
The image to the right shows the task assigned to each person in the group.

In this lesson we had a run through of our television programe Social Challenge, while in the studio we experienced some technical issues as well as individual issues. One issue I had as a camera operator was that I did not know what shots to take as I had not looked at the shooting script beforehand. In hindsight I would have memorized the shooting script to avoid coming into studio without having a clear idea of what I had to do. Another problem we had was with the lighting as Chai-ann was unfamiliar with her role and did not when to fade in or out the lights. Also Zek who was in charge of the sound was not familiar with how to operate it, this meant he did not when he had to add in sound. These issues helped us in the long run as it made sure the next time we entered the studio we had everything prepared before filming.

At the end of the run through we were given feedback by Danielle, at the start of the run through it was chaotic as not everyone was familiar with there role,  One thing me and the rest of the cameramen struggled with was not having the shot list which caused problems as we did not what shots to takes. Another problem we had is that we did not have all the pre-recorded clips ready before we started to film. We also had problems with the sound as we did not have the music we wanted to use ready beforehand, also zek who was in charge of the sound did not know when to play the music. After the initial hiccups everything else went quite smoothly, as the filming progressed I felt more comfortable in my role as I began to understand my role better. One problem I had was that I found it difficult to move the Ipad while it was on the tripod as it was stiff. In the next lesson I will try a different tripod which would be more easier to film.
